TRAINING ACADEMY
Rising Storm Training Academy is a dynamic School known for its teamwork-oriented environment and its commitment to the success of each and every student. Our goal is to provide a safe training environment where students can have fun, develop character, leadership skills, and self-control, and become more positive, balanced individuals.
We offer youth and adult classes incorporating disciplines of:
Kempo Karate, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Taekwondo, and Boxing.

PROGRAMS
Kids Classes
Youth Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
This class safely teaches you self defense through positioning for throws along with techniques to control your opponent from the ground. The approach to competition is fun and exciting. Classes are available for all ages and ability levels. Learn from a true master in the art!
Youth Karate (4-9 years old)
This dynamic class is known for its fun games and teamwork-oriented environment. Children (4-9) learn a mix of traditional Kempo Karate with elements of grappling. This gives the child a true self-defense perspective all while having fun and building confidence. Find out first hand why the instructor was inducted into the World Martial Arts Federation 2010 Hall of Fame for “Outstanding Youth Instruction”.
Warrior (Pre-teen) / Advanced Blue Belt and Up
Our Warrior class is geared toward pre-teens and students with advanced blue belts and higher. The program “steps up” the Youth Kempo with more mature self-defense, and a more in-depth belt curriculum. Everything from history to weaponry is part of this class.
Tumbling Tigers (3-5 years old)
This class focuses on safety, combined with fun games and basic karate and tumbling. This class is great for students who are just beginning their training.
Ninjastics (all ages)
Ninjastics combines gymnastics tumbling with martial arts acrobatics. This program runs separately from regular Karate classes and focuses on developing skills outside of the Kempo system. Enrollment includes a brand new T-Shirt!
Youth Tae Kwon Do
Tae Kwon Do is a Korean Martial Art. This class runs separately from our Youth Karate program and is a great class if students are looking to expand their training. Within this class, students will learn kata and techniques from the Tae Kwon Do system as well as self-defense and basic conditioning.
Youth Boxing
This class safely teaches you boxing fundamentals with an emphasis on bag work. Freehand wraps are provided upon registration!
Adult Classes
Adult Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
This class safely teaches you self defense through positioning for throws along with techniques to control your opponent from the ground. The approach to competition is fun and exciting. Learn from a true master in the art!
Kempo Karate
In this class, adult students will learn a traditional system of self-defense and kata and focus on time-tested techniques that instill confidence, strength, and an indomitable spirit. Students will learn a variety of hand and kicking techniques, self-defense combinations, and the traditional kata (formal dance) of this system.
Jiu-Jitsu
Translated as "gentle art" this class focuses on groundwork and wrestling and is geared towards applying your Kempo Karate training in a sports environment. Students will learn about takedowns, pins, and various joint manipulations. This class is great for the student who is looking to improve their sparring and grappling skills and builds a good skill set for those looking to compete.
Tae Kwon Do
In its various forms today, Tae Kwon Do is a Korean martial art and sport that developed over 5000 years.
Translated as the “way of the foot and the hand,” taekwondo is characterized by both kicking and hand techniques, the practice of fixed offensive and defensive patterns (“Poomsae”), and self-defense. Competitive sport taekwondo emphasizes speed, agility, flexibility, and strategy in its execution of aerobic kicking techniques from a relatively narrow stance (to that of traditional taekwondo). The classes taught at New England Movement Arts emphasizes the sport style of taekwondo with an emphasis on drills and conditioning.
Chen Tai Chi
This style of Tai Chi is one of the oldest of the various styles taught throughout the world. This style focuses on alternating between fast and slow movements with the addition of a burst of power during certain movements.
Historical European Martial Arts
This class is dedicated to the practical study of Kunst des Fechtens (KdF), the traditional martial arts of medieval Germany. The primary weapon is the longsword but other medieval weapons are taught as well.
ABOUT THE ACADEMY
Rising Storm Training Academy (RSTA) was established by Sensei Nathan Porter in 2011 with the goal of providing quality martial arts training that helps guide students in becoming more positive, productive, and balanced individuals in all aspects of their lives. Additionally, RSTA aims to create a safe training space where students can blend their unique characters and creativity with the traditional and current views of the martial arts.
RSTA offers youth and adult classes in Kempo Karate, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Taekwondo, and Self-Defense. RSTA now has two locations to better serve our students. Our main location is at 123 Muller Road in Burlington, MA within the New England Movement Arts (NEMA) complex. Our second location was just developed in September and is located at 101 Broadway Rd # 15, Dracut, MA 01826. The head instructors are Sensei Greta Genovese and Sensei Nathan Porter.

MEET THE INSTRUCTORS
Sensei Nathan Porter
The owner and chief instructor of Rising Storm Training Academy at New England Movement Arts. Sensei Nathan has been training in Kempo Karate since 1998, and he currently holds the rank of 5th-degree black belt. He has cross-trained in various martial arts disciplines including wrestling, jujitsu, aikido, taekwondo, judo, and the Filipino arts. He is a KRANE State Champion, and in 2003 he won the Bantamweight Division at the ISKA World Submission Grappling Championships in Orlando, Florida.

In November 2010, he traveled to Indonesia and the Philippines, where he studied under numerous masters in various disciplines of martial arts.

In June 2010, Sensei Nathan was recognized and inducted into the World Martial Art Federation Hall of Fame for Outstanding Youth Instruction. and Rising Storm Training Academy was recognized as the Best Karate School by the Best of Burlington Award Program from 2015-2024.

Sensei Greta Genovese
The main instructor at Rising Storm Training Academy Dracut. Sensei Greta has been training in Kempo Karate since 2011, she is one of Sensei Nathan's longest-running and most dedicated students. She began studying Martial Arts back in Italy while in high school. She later studied Taekwondo for two years before settling on Kempo. She trains in Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu as well.
Greta has always been very competitive. While younger she competed in tennis and skiing. She has competed in lots of State and New England tournaments for KRANE. In 2019 she really pushed herself with tournaments. She won Grand Championship for sparring in KRANE. She also won the Grand Championship for weapons at Pan American Miami. She competed in Naska tournaments for North America. She came in first in multiple tournaments like sparring at Amerikick Internationals, weapons at Battle of Atlanta, and for sparring, forms, and weapons at Pan American Nationals.

Professor Keith Ridings
Keith Ridings has been with Rising Storm Training Academy for three years and is a martial art expert and teacher. Sensei Keith began martial arts training in 1986 in the eclectic self-defense system of Shaolin Kempo Karate Jujitsu, became a full instructor in 1989, and in 1991 became the Chief Instructor of his training dojo in Burlington, MA. In 1993 opened the American Martial Arts Academy of Self-Defense in Plaistow, NH and had achieved the rank of 3rd degree black belt (expert level). In 1995 was awarded the title of Sensei from Soke Nicholas Cerio. In 1997 earned the rank of 4th degree black belt in San Chi Na from Master Cal Carozzi Sr. Since then Sensei Keith has developed skills through the extensive study of a variety of eastern and western martial arts systems both in empty hands and armed combat, hard and soft disciplines.

Tom Card
Tom began with Rising Storm over 21 years ago, and has been coaching and assisting youth programs for over ten years - everything from classes, camps, and weaponry. Tom achieved the rank of Shodan in 2021. He has cross trained in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Tom’s love for athletics began in high school where he played both football and baseball. After high school, Tom switched to the nutrition side of athletics, and started assisting with youth martial arts as an endurance and fitness coach before crossing into martial arts and karate. Tom has found his true passion after teaching full time and has grown into the head instructor of the Burlington Location of Rising Storm Training Academy.
